lyrics

It seems that I could stay out here where the prairies never end
Where my heart is free to dance just like the wind
There’s a peace out there on the open plain where the moon is hanging low
Where the stars are bigger than the night below

But in the heart of the breaks where the hills collide
There’s an ancient hopelessness
You can see it there on the face of a little child
And the shadows hang on the valleys
Just like the night hangs on the wild

I could not hope for any less
Than to see the rain fall on this wilderness.
I could not hope for any less
Than to see the wind move o'er this barrenness

As I’m wandering in these lonely hills my spirit’s crying out
And my heart is longing for the kingdom come
Where the fatherless becomes a son and the orphan finds a home
And the children dance for a love they’ve never known

And on the far horizon there’s a thunderhead
And it’s trembling the land
You can hear it there echoing above the thirst
And it’s song brings hope to the valleys
For the coming rains fill them first

I could not hope for any less
Than to see the rain fall on this wilderness
I could not hope for any less
Than to see the wind move o'er this barrenness

So let the shadows fade to glory
And may hope our spirits fill
Just like that song upon the prairies
Let it echo in these hills
And the plains are calling out a name more ancient than their song
As your Spirit, your Spirit comes
